چکیده

This paper models a multibody collision in the impulse space as a state transition diagram, where each state represents a phase during which impacts are “active” at only a subset of the contact points. A state transition happens whenever an active impact finishes restitution, or an inactive impact gets reactivated, depending on whether the two involved bodies are instantaneously penetrating into each other or not. The elastic energy due to an impact is not only affected by the impulse at the corresponding contact point, but also by other impulses exerted on the two involved bodies during the impact. Consequently, Poisson’s impulse-based law of restitution could result in negative energy. A new law governing the loss of elastic energy during restitution is introduced. Convergence of the impulse sequence generated by the state transition diagram is established. The collision outcome depends on the ratios of the contact stiffnesses rather than on their individual values. The collision model is then applied in an analysis of billiard shooting in which the cue stick impacts the cue ball, which in turn impacts the pool table.

Simultaneous Impacts: a State Transition Diagram Approach

Impact happens when two or more bodies collide, generating very large impulsive forces in a very short period of time during which kinetic energy is first absorbed and then released after some loss. This paper introduces a state transition diagram to model a frictionless multibody collision. Each state describes a different topology of the collision characterized by the set of instantaneously a...

Experimental Signals of the First Phase Transition of Nuclear Matter

Vaporized and multifragmenting sources produced in heavy ion collisions at intermediate energies are good candidates to investigate the phase diagram of nuclear matter. The properties of highly excited nuclear sources which undergo a simultaneous disassembly into particles are found to sign the presence of a gas phase. For heavy nuclear sources produced in the Fermi energy domain, which undergo...

A Hamiltonian approach to compute an energy efficient trajectory for a servomotor system

This paper considers a nonlinear constrained optimal control problem (NCOCP) originated from energy optimal trajectory planning of servomotor systems. Solving the exact optimal solution is challenging because of the nonlinear and switching cost function, and various constraints. This paper proposes a method to manage the switching cost function to establish a set of necessary conditions of an N...

The simultaneous effect of 3d impurities of transition metals and oxygen vacancy defect on TiO2 anatase and rutile

In this work, the formation of oxygen-vacancy defect in 3d metals-doped TiO2 anatase and rutile structures is first investigated. The systematic calculations of formation energy, crystalline stability, band structure and density of state (DOS) of TiO2 samples of anatase and rutile doped with 3d transition metals with and without oxygen defect is done using FHI-aims as a software package based o...

Thermodynamics of a time-dependent and dissipative oval billiard: A heat transfer and billiard approach.

We study some statistical properties for the behavior of the average squared velocity-hence the temperature-for an ensemble of classical particles moving in a billiard whose boundary is time dependent. We assume the collisions of the particles with the boundary of the billiard are inelastic, leading the average squared velocity to reach a steady-state dynamics for large enough time. The descrip...
